We’re excited to offer the free EnABLED Business program in the Ipswich, Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay regions!
With 4.4 million Australians identifying as having a disability, businesses may be missing out on potential employees and customers.
As part of the program, Small Business Inclusion Mentors work directly with businesses to understand their goals and provide recommendations to improve access and inclusion and deliver disability awareness training workshops to help all staff increase their knowledge (such as the Realistic Race).
The program provides practical steps for creating employment opportunities for people with disability and connections to potential employees, along with ways to improve access and inclusion to attract more customers.
The EnABLED Business program is being delivered by Spinal Life with the support of disability employment specialists Epic Assist in the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay, along with other employment service providers.
How the EnABLED Business program helps
Owner-operators of Aqua Vista Resort in Maroochydore, Jenni and Rob recently hired an employee with disability after participating in one-on-one mentoring through the free EnABLED Business program.
Small Business Inclusion Mentor Brendan Somerville worked closely with Jenni and Rob to understand their business goals and provide recommendations to improve access and inclusion.
Brendan, along with Epic Assist Employment Advisor Michael Hunt, helped Jenni and Rob to identify and fill a vacancy to support their business needs, matching a jobseeker with disability to help them for a few hours per week with cleaning and gardening duties.
Through the program, Jenni and Rob also have a checklist they can follow to ensure all their guests have an accessible and inclusive stay, and are also listed on Spinal Life’s Accessible Australia web app to promote their accommodation to all Australians living with disability.
